Job summary

We are looking for a competent PHP developer to work on the development of eCommerce applications, and the deployment of those applications for a number of online retail clients and upmarket brands.

The role will lead the expansion of the development team, set high standards for them, and allow us to keep up the pace of the rapid sales growth experienced by our clients.

The person will be joining the team at an early stage of the business where there is still a minimum of legacy systems and architecture to be dealt with, and will be deeply involved in setting the standards for the team to work to over coming years.

Working with two junior developers at the outset,  you will be able to develop and recruit your own team as the role expands

The role is split between the development of ecommerce websites for clients, and in the development of supporting technologies, including bespoke Magento extensions, and wholly bespoke applications such as our SEO campaign management tools and workflow management system.

Experience

Must have
Examples of having developed retail ecommerce websites of a significant value (typically £500K -£5million revenues p.a.)

Integration with other ecommerce enabling systems (payment gateways, order management, inventory, shipping, financial reporting, etc) using XML RPC or SOAP protocols, or other similar technologies.

You will need to explain your role in the above projects.

Some knowledge of security, scaling applications to multi server environments, and performance testing and enhancements will be needed as the role expands.

Technologies

Essential
At least 3 years experience in the following:

• Object Orientated PHP development including PHP5
• MySQL
• Development using a PHP framework. Zend ideally.
• Understanding of the MVC pattern
• XML

Nice to have
Apache / Linux administration

Magento - anyone expecting the top of the salary band will need to demonstrate at least two live, commercial Magento projects involving bespoke design and integration with third party order and stock management systems.

We already have front-end development skills in the business but the following are always useful:

• AJAX
• XHTML
• CSS
• Javascript including use of libraries such as jQuery, Prototype or Scriptaculous

Understanding of on-site Search optimisation techniques including semantic markup, RSS, XML sitemaps

Candidates will be given a practical test to complete in their own time following the first interview to demonstrate their skills.

Salary: £30-40K, dependent on experience

Hours: 9:00-5:30 Mon-Fri
