Job summary
We are looking for a competent PHP developer to work on the development of eCommerce applications, and the deployment of those applications for a number of online retail clients and upmarket brands.
The role will lead the expansion of the development team, set high standards for them, and allow us to keep up the pace of the rapid sales growth experienced by our clients.
The person will be joining the team at an early stage of the business where there is still a minimum of legacy systems and architecture to be dealt with, and will be deeply involved in setting the standards for the team to work to over coming years.
Working with two other developers at the outset, you will be able to develop and recruit your own team as the role expands
The role is split between the development of ecommerce websites for clients, and in the development of supporting technologies, including bespoke Magento extensions, and wholly bespoke applications such as our SEO campaign management tools and workflow management system.
Core Responsibilities:
Delivery of Ecommerce websites
(60% of role)
To work with our designers and front-end developers and project managers to create websites the meet the client's brief including:
- Setup and configuration of the chosen CMS for the project
- Integration of supplied XHTML/CSS and other design assets into the chosen content management solution.
- Bespoke development to extend the functionality of the platforms as required by the client brief.
- Selection and management appropriate hosting, monitoring and other third party services to support these websites.
Secondary responsibilities:
1) Development support for online marketing team.
15% of role
- Creation of web-based applications to further support the marketing services provided to clients.
(e.g. our in-house project tracking app, and contact management app for online PR projects) - Support to other staff members in the 'technical' aspects of running online marketing campaigns.
(E.g. verifying Google Webmaster Accounts, creating product data feeds for third party services, and integrating tracking and analytics packages on websites.) - Be able to edit valid XHTML / CSS markup to a high standard
- Ability to work with and integrate existing JavaScript libraries into designs, extending functionality where required (e.g. jquery and plugins)
- Manage hosting suppliers, domain registrations and renewals and other suppliers relating to the role.

2) Contribution to open source communities
20% of role
- Identify bespoke development request from clients and internally which may be of use to other members of the open source communities.
- Enhance our solution to be used by other sites with a minimum of installation and support input from Shine
- Distribute via appropriate channels (e.g. Magento Connect, GitHub, Sourceforge)
3) Administration
5% of role
- Maintain timesheets and monitor the staff resources used on each project
- Communicate progress to the project manager on a weekly basis
- Communicate out-of-scope requests to project manager as appropriate
Qualifications & Skills:
To be considered for this senior role, you'll need to have developed a number of retail E-commerce websites, have strong OO PHP development skills (to PHP5) using Zend framework, at least 2 commercial Magento Ecommerce projects involving bespoke design and 3rd party integration, mySQL, XML and an understanding of the MVC pattern.
The candidate have 3-5 years experience in a similar client-focused environment
Candidates will be given a practical test to complete in their own time following first interview to demonstrate their skills.

The role would suit someone with experience in the hands-on implementation of eCommerce websites related developments who are wishing to expand their breadth of experience in a fast growing company.
Package
£30k - £40k dep on experience
20 days holiday p.a. plus bank holidays
Hours: 9:00-5:30 Mon-Fri
